Getting started with DeepSeek Harness Desktop

This guide walks through download, verification, installation, first launch, data location and backup.

What you get

A native Tauri 2 app that starts the official DeepSeek Harness web UI with a bundled Node.js runtime. No terminal, no manual Node.js setup.

Download and verify

Download the package for your platform from the download page. Each asset has a .sha256 sidecar file; verify it before running unsigned preview builds.

Install on Windows

Run DeepSeek.Harness.Desktop_0.2.1_x64-setup.exe and follow the NSIS wizard. If SmartScreen appears, click More infoRun anyway.

Install on macOS

Open DeepSeek.Harness.Desktop_0.2.1_aarch64.dmg, drag the app into /Applications, then right-click the app and choose Open to pass Gatekeeper.

First launch

The bootstrap window starts the Harness automatically and opens the Harness web UI when it is ready. Keep the bootstrap window available for status, restart and diagnostics.

Where your data lives

Data is stored in the platform application-data directory under harness/, isolated from the CLI's ~/.dsh. Use the diagnostics button to see the exact path.

Backup, migration and uninstall

To back up or migrate, close the app and copy the harness/ data directory. To uninstall, remove the app normally and then delete that data directory.

Install DeepSeek Harness Desktop

  1. Download the Windows x64 installer or macOS Apple Silicon DMG and its .sha256 file.
  2. Verify the SHA-256 checksum.
  3. Run the installer (Windows) or drag the app to Applications (macOS).
  4. Allow SmartScreen or Gatekeeper after verifying the checksum.
  5. Launch DeepSeek Harness.
